The 10 Reasons Why People Aren’t Buying From You

by | Jun 30, 2026 | Thoughts & Events

If your sales are slow right now, it’s not bad luck.

It’s one or more of ten specific, fixable reasons. And once you identify which ones apply to you, you have a clear path forward.

Reasons 1 through 3: The Fundamentals Most Reps Get Wrong

Reason 1: You’re not talking to enough people.

This one is first for a reason. If you’re reaching out to a handful of people per week, the math simply doesn’t work in your favor. Volume matters. The reps sending 25 to 30 messages a day have a different problem. Everyone else needs to increase their activity first.

Reason 2: You focus more on your solution than your prospect’s problem.

You know everything about what you’re selling. The ingredients, the founders, the clinical studies, the compensation plan. But none of that matters until the prospect feels like their problem has been understood.

Nobody cares about your solution unless you’ve first expanded their problem and aligned it.

Reason 3: Your video is incongruent with your invite.

This one surprises people, but it’s extremely common.

If you invite someone with a money-focused message and send them a video that opens with 10 minutes about the product, they’re going to tune out. They were expecting money content. You delivered product content. The disconnect kills the sale before it has a chance.

The fix: either change your invite to match the video, or use a video that opens with the same angle you used to invite them.

Posture Check: Your invite sets an expectation. Your video has to meet it. If those two things don’t match in the first few minutes, most people won’t stick around long enough to hear your close.

Reasons 4 through 6: What Prospects See Before They Talk to You

Reason 4: Your bio isn’t congruent with who you’re reaching out to.

Ray’s client Christie Morgan from Australia generated $100,000 in personal commissions in under 60 days using cold market messaging, because her bio matched the niche she was targeting.

If you’re reaching out to realtors but your bio talks about hormone-balancing meals, they’re going to be confused. Your social media presence needs to align with the audience you’re contacting. Run niche-focused blitzes and update your bio to match. Nobody will notice except the right people.

Reason 5: You believe it isn’t going to work or last.

This one is deeper than it looks. If you’ve been coached and you discover a quiet internal belief that the company is going to fold or that the product won’t hold up, you’re not going to go all in. And you shouldn’t, because it’s also unethical to recruit others into something you don’t believe in.

Fix the belief first. Then build the business.

Reason 6: You aren’t sure of the value of your product or service.

When a prospect says “that seems expensive” and your first instinct is to agree with them, you’ve lost the sale before you said another word. You have to know, deep in your gut, that what you’re offering is worth more than what you’re charging.

If you don’t believe that yet, use the product, study it, experience it. If you still can’t get there, find something else to sell.

Posture Check: If the price makes you flinch, it will make your prospect flinch too. Your belief in the value of what you sell is communicated before you say a single word about price.

Reasons 7 through 10: The Internal Blockers

Reason 7: You don’t think you deserve wealth.

This is a belief problem. Many reps have an unconscious ceiling on what they feel they’re allowed to earn. That ceiling will always stop them before the market does.

Reason 8: You’re bad at follow-up.

When you send a video, they are almost never going to follow up with you. That’s just how people operate. You have to follow up with them. A simple check-in after sending the presentation is not pushy. It’s professional. Skipping it is leaving sales on the table every single day.

Reason 9: You don’t have posture.

Posture is the management of the energy of the conversation.

When you’re eager, desperate, or chasing, prospects feel it. That commission breath, that neediness, that sense of urgency coming from your fear instead of their problem: it repels people. Learn posture and stop letting your anxiety run your sales conversations.

Reason 10: You’re mentally rehearsing failure instead of success.

Every successful athlete has talked about visualizing the win before it happened. One Olympic gold medalist used to stack tree stumps as a kid in the shape of a podium and stand on the highest one with his hands raised, imagining the medal around his neck.

What are you rehearsing in your mind before you make a call or send a message? Embarrassment? Rejection? Or the close?

Start mentally rehearsing the win. As Mark 11:24 says, pray as if you’ve already received. That’s what gratitude and belief look like in practice.

Posture Check: Stop rehearsing rejection and start rehearsing the result. Your mind doesn’t always know the difference between what’s imagined and what’s real. Use that to your advantage.

Which One Was Yours?

Go back through that list and be honest with yourself.

Not talking to enough people. Focusing on your solution, not their problem. Incongruent invite and video. Mismatched bio. Limiting beliefs. Uncertainty about your product’s value. A worthiness ceiling. Poor follow-up. No posture. Mental rehearsal of failure.

One of these is your bottleneck. Probably more than one. Now you know what to work on.

Your results can change. But only after the root cause does.
