MLM Success and Product Knowledge
How important is it for you to have intimate product knowledge about the product that you’re selling in network marketing?
To me it’s a double-edged sword. First of all, knowledge is never bad. I will never say you need to be dumber about your product, but knowledge can sometimes be a double-edged sword in that, a lot of times people when they have knowledge they want to tell everyone how much knowledge they have. The problem with that is, if you prospect someone and you share with them 30 minutes about how amazing your ground floor product is, then they’re going to walk away thinking, “Oh, my God. I need to know all that stuff … I don’t know if I can do this business.”
That’s if you’re attempting to recruit business builders. If you’re trying to get customers, it’s not as bad, but if you’re trying to get business builders, the more you say, they’re going to translate it, without your assistance, as, “If I want to build this business, I have to know everything that this person just said. I don’t know if I want to do this,” so … If you have amazing knowledge about your product, just be careful on how you utilize that knowledge. If your goal is to impress every prospect you ever have, you can, but you also probably won’t get that many sign-ups.
I think it’s a good idea in case you’re ever asked to speak on your product or something like that, Just be careful with how you roll that out to prospects. A lot of times we blow the sale by saying too much: Look to say less, to more people, some of the best recruiting advice I can give you. Say less, to more people. Have all the knowledge, just be selective in how you roll it out. Now, if you’re creating blogs, and content, and videos, then some of that knowledge probably makes sense to roll out, to attract customers to you, etc.; but as far as dealing with a prospect, that’s where I’m a little concerned. As far as requirement of product knowledge, for you to build a humongous team and create MLM success, believe it or not, you really don’t have to know that much about the product.
