Why MLM’ers Hear the Negative Opinions of Others

So the network marketing profession is a funny one, it has more leverage and less risk than pretty much anything out there but it also carries the most skepticism and you hear the opinions of others constantly. If you think about it, it’s easy to understand why it carries skepticism, it’s actually by design. It has NOTHING to do with earning off the efforts of others in any pyramid type way, because that is how all corporations and governments or anything with a hierarchy work, it has more to do with the low barrier to entry and complete lack of credentials to participate.


Anyone, regardless of background, can participate in a network marketing business and the barrier to entry is stupidly low. Try starting ANY other business for less than $1,000 and you will be rudely surprised. It is THOSE facts that have everyone prospecting everyone else regardless of redeeming qualities that has networkers hearing the opinions of others. Do you know people that go around bashing franchises? The answer is No, because the barrier to entry is higher and franchise sales people do a whole lot more qualifying than network marketers do.

So, we have covered WHY network marketers have to deal with the negative opinions of others, it’s because those being negative were never properly qualified and treated like they would if the prospector was a professional. Armed with that, maybe we can NOW cover how to deal with other peoples opinion.

If You Are Getting Crushed by Others Opinions..

1. Stop trying to be right and CONVINCE them. Stop it. Stop it, stop it, stop it. Know when you should pull away from the conversation. This is a pretty funny post I wrote years ago about pulling away..

2. If you are fearing rejection, you believe in scarcity possible. This post about the fear of rejection may help

3. Listen to the negative opinions of others as gratitude notes from the universe. If they are nasty to you, say a silent thank you to the universe that you don’t have to deal with that person like their poor mom, wife, husband, kids, etc and that in network marketing you don’t just HAVE to chat around the water cooler, you get to CHOOSE who you work with!

4. Know that you are normal. Everyone, myself included, have had heated opinions thrown at me on how “it’ll never work” or “it’s a scam” or “it’s a pyramid”, we have all heard those ignorant opinions from others but it is how you react that will make the difference. Next time someone is nasty to you, laugh and say, yeah, it’s definitely not a fit for you! And tell them to have a nice day and walk away. Just reacting this way boosts your confidence and the other person will think twice to bash you again as you were totally unaffected.
