Most people don’t fail because they lack goals. They fail because they refuse to become the version of themselves those goals require.
The Exercise Worth Doing Right Now
Pick one category and think about a result you would love to have but do not currently have. Ten thousand a month. Twenty thousand a month. A lake house. Financial freedom. Whatever it is for you.
Every one of those results requires something. Discipline, obviously. Consistency, obviously. But most of them also require boldness, courage, stick-to-it-ness, guts, and a willingness to get uncomfortable.
Posture Check: Look at your goals and ask what traits are required to achieve them. Then ask yourself honestly whether you currently have those traits.
Uncomfortable Does Not Mean Miserable
Being in foreclosure, a million dollars in debt, and chased by bill collectors was genuinely miserable. But that was not the most uncomfortable season. The most uncomfortable moments came from making leaps of faith, not from the misery itself.
Leaving the corporate world when absolutely no one agreed with it was uncomfortable. Investing thirty eight thousand dollars into a first major coach in 2013 was uncomfortable. That investment led directly to a first million dollar year.
Posture Check: Uncomfortable does not mean you stop covering your bills. It means getting into rooms you’re nervous to be in and making a leap you’re not sure will land.
The Guy Who Sold the Mortgage Payment for a Plane Ticket
A rep named Eric was cold prospecting on LinkedIn when a company opened in Malaysia. A prospect responded and said he wanted to meet in person first. Eric went to his wife and told her not to pay the mortgage that month because he needed the money for a flight to Malaysia.
He made the trip. He met the guy and his partner. That relationship grew his organization by twenty thousand people a month.
Another example: a plumber started filming himself unclogging toilets and sinks for a YouTube channel nobody was watching. For over a year he sat around a thousand subscribers. He kept showing up anyway. Then the growth hit. A thousand new subscribers in a day, then two thousand, then ten thousand in a month. He eventually landed a two million dollar sponsorship deal and sold his plumbing company to focus on YouTube full time.
Posture Check: You do not become someone new while cowering in fear and worry. You’ll stay exactly as small as you’re currently being. You have to make the leap first.
Risking Looking Stupid Is Part of the Deal
Leaving real estate after getting financially wiped out and moving into network marketing brought plenty of commentary. Couldn’t hack it in real estate. Now he’s in some pyramid thing. That kind of talk.
Galatians 1:10 makes the point directly: you cannot be a people pleaser and a servant at the same time. The goal was never to please everyone. It was to serve, using the gifts and skills available, even when that meant getting uncomfortable in front of people with opinions.
Every major figure in scripture had to move through discomfort to reach the fruit on the other side. Abraham left his country for unknown land. Joseph endured years of setbacks before his purpose became clear. Peter went through his own trials. There is no version of the story where the fruit shows up without the uncomfortable stretch first.
Think in Traits, Not Just Goals
Instead of only focusing on what you want or what you lack, ask a different question: what traits does this specific goal require? Boldness, courage, consistency, persistence, tenacity, focus.
Posture Check: If you don’t currently have those traits, that is probably exactly why you don’t yet have the result.
For daily accountability on building those traits, Rank Makers delivers a less than five minute action step and training every weekday, and the group has tracked over three hundred thousand new customers and seventy one thousand new reps brought in since 2018. Check it out at rankmakers.com.
