how to create motivation

Staci: Dawn, recommendation after losing, okay. After losing motivation, any jumps start? I mean, there’s so much to this question. We’ve all been there, but there also could be a deeper reason for your lack of motivation right now. I’m not sure. I don’t have all the facts. But let’s just say, okay, let’s just say for the sake of argument, this is normal losing motivation. Maybe life kicked in the teeth a little bit, nothing, in particular, just a lot going on, you’re busy, maybe you haven’t been feeling well, whatever. You just don’t feel like working your business. If there’s a bigger, deeper reason, like something major happening, I might have a slightly different response. We can definitely chat about that.

But in general, what I would say is that most of us are not motivated to do the menial tasks that need to be done to inch our business forward every day. That’s why they call it mastering the mundane. Because they’re well aware that it’s not all fu, it’s not all jazz hands, it’s not all exciting. And I don’t sit down in front of my laptop every day when I’m about to start my follow-ups and think this is awesome, I can’t wait to follow up. I will say that, I will pump my fists in the air, I will put on the Spotify and I’ll dance it out, maybe. But my first reaction sometimes it’s like, “Ah, I don’t want to.”

Right. I think that’s pretty common Dawn, but you get yourself into a committed daily method of operation that has nothing to do with whether you’re motivated. What is it they say? Motivation is like showering, you got to do it every day. I think that’s right. I have a tendency to mix up all of my quotes. So you guys can call me.

Nicole: It worked to go with it.

Staci: Or I’ll take the analogies and I’ll combine two in one, it makes no sense. But anyway, there’s going to be a lot of times, you’re not going to feel like it. You have to be committed to your daily method of operation, whether you feel like it or not, and you need to create motivation. And I’ll tell you something, there’s nothing that creates motivation more than activity, then massive action. Especially if it’s creating a result, but not only if it’s creating a result, especially if it’s creating a result. But you will actually find your internal motivation increases significantly just by the sheer fact that you’re taking action regardless of the outcome. I promise that’s true.

But I do things to make sure that I get in the right zone, whether I feel like it or not. And music is one of those things that does it for me. For some people, it’s prayer. For some people it’s taking a walk, meditation, whatever it is for you, that gets you in the zone. You got to do that. And behind that, you have to be intimately connected and familiar with your vision and why you’re doing this in the first place.

Because if you don’t have something that’s pulling you on those hard days, that is bigger than the trouble, bigger than the obstacles, bigger than the word no. If you don’t have something bigger and really understand it, and feel it, and know it, and have a lot of emotion around it, it’s going to be easy to take you out of the game. Whew, just blow. Well, Dawn’s not working again.

You have to have a vision of what it is you want, who you’re being, who you want to be. It’s so important. So I know that’s a lot of answers, but because I don’t know your specific situation, hopefully, that helps a few people with that issue. Nicole, would you add anything to that?

Nicole: Just something quickly. You and I were talking about this earlier today in clubhouse. And it was something that Jordan [Leveck] was talking about and I thought it was brilliant. And she said, “You have to parent yourself.” You can’t get motivated from thinking about something. You can only get motivated by getting into action and doing something. Even if you think you’re going to fail, even if you do, because you’re going to learn from your failure, you’re going to be better next time.

That’s what makes the mind of a leader. Getting into action and failing. That’s what makes a leader because now you have something to speak from. You’ll be able to help people. It’s going to cast a vision for yourself and ask yourself this question, because Dawn, I don’t know what season of life you’re living in. I don’t know if you’re married. I don’t know if you have children, but there’s someone if there’s someone in your life that’s asking you how your business is going. And it hits you in the gut hard in your identity of, “They ask me that one more time. I’m just going to quit because it hurts. I don’t like looking at my back office, there are all zeros. I don’t like doing the work because it makes me feel bad because I don’t like the word no.” Whatever it is.

The worst feeling is when someone asks you how your business is going because there are people depending on you because you made a promise to someone that you were going to do this because you wanted to offer a solution. That’s the worst feeling, much worse. So when you get into action, even though you don’t want to, I want you to imagine that that day, when that person asks you how everything’s going, you’re going to be able to say I did something good today. That goes so far, Dawn.

Getting into action is going to start helping you feel better about the things you’re committed to doing that you’ve promised yourself to help other people. And we’re all in this for the long haul. We are not in this to make a million dollars overnight, it’s impossible. And if we did, we’d probably lose it because we need self-development. And that is what you have at your fingertips in this amazing industry.
