In our spiritual journey, one truth stands above all others: when God looks at you, He doesn’t see anything wrong with you. He only sees Jesus. This powerful revelation has transformed my understanding of what it means to live as a new creation.
The Joshua Principle: God’s Unchanging Promise
Recently, I was struck by the story of Joshua in chapter one. After Moses died, Joshua found himself in a daunting position – leading an untrained army to conquer the Promised Land. You can almost feel his anxiety rising as he contemplates this overwhelming responsibility.
In this moment of crisis, God speaks these transformative words: “No man will be able to stand before you all the days of your life, just as I was with Moses, so I will be with you.”
Think about the relief Joshua must have felt. He had witnessed God’s power working through Moses firsthand. Now, that same presence and power would be with him.
The New Testament Parallel: Christ’s Final Prayer
Fast forward to the New Testament. Jesus is in the Garden of Gethsemane, facing his crucifixion. In his final prayer recorded in John 17, Jesus makes an astounding declaration about us:
“The Glory which you have given me, I have given to them… I in them and you in me, that they may be perfected in unity… that the love with which you loved me may be in them and I in them.”
This is the New Testament equivalent of “just as I was with Moses.” The Father essentially says to us, “Just as I was with Jesus, so I will be with you.”
The Power of Your New Creation Reality
Why did God put us into Christ and Christ into us? So that the Father could only see us one way – through Jesus. When God looks at you, He doesn’t see anything wrong with you. He only sees Jesus.
This truth changes everything about how we approach our relationship with God. The old person is dead, crucified with Christ. God knew the old nature was too corrupted to be cleansed – it had to be crucified.
Many of us have spent years in churches that didn’t teach about our new nature. Instead, we heard constant messages about not sinning, about changing ourselves, about self-development. We were beaten down rather than built up.
But the beautiful truth is that God put Jesus into you so He could love you in the same way He loves Jesus. There is no blame, shame, or condemnation because when God looks at you, He doesn’t see anything wrong with you.
Breaking Free from Religious Conditioning
When I finally understood this truth, it revolutionized my entire approach to Christianity. I realized I couldn’t stay in places that constantly made me feel less than, that focused on fixing my flaws rather than celebrating my new identity.
God led me to a community that understood what it meant to live from the new creation. These believers opened up the Bible in ways I’d never seen before. Instead of focusing on religious performance, we led with value and goodness in our community.
We learned trades and helped each other fix up our homes. When neighbors noticed, we extended the same generosity to them, simply asking them to work alongside us. This led to natural relationships where people encountered Jesus on their own territory before ever stepping foot in a church.
Walking in Your New Nature
Every day offers a fresh opportunity to live from your new nature. Rather than trying to fix your old self (which is dead), focus on learning to live from your new identity in Christ.
The Holy Spirit is empowering and supporting your learning as you experience God’s life in you. You’re no longer a slave to sin – it’s no longer your nature. All that remains are attachments through memory, habits, and thought processes that are now being upgraded by your new life in Christ.
Never return to the old. Turn your back on it. You have a new nature to embrace and learn. God absolutely loves being with you in this process of becoming sanctified by your walk with Him. Making you in His image and likeness brings Him delight.
A Prophetic Word for You
Remember this truth today: You are a resurrected being walking in newness of life. You are God’s new creation, and He couldn’t be more happy with you than He is at this moment. He is happy in you, for you, and with you.
Every day is new, fresh, and life-giving. Never carry negativity into a new day. Instead, make it a daily practice to release anything negative before bed. Then wake up and start each new day fresh in Jesus.
As you learn to be made into God’s image, all your mistakes in that process are covered by the blood of Jesus and the power of grace and mercy. This is a new day. Welcome to the Kingdom and to an ever-increasing fullness with your God.
