Have you ever found yourself trying to logic your way through life using only your head knowledge? I’ve been there. But I’ve discovered something incredible: the most fulfilling, magical, and adventurous life comes from seeking a deeper relationship with our Heavenly Father.
I’m thrilled to share these transformational insights that have completely changed my perspective on what it means to live in our new nature with Christ.
The New Creation Reality
In 2 Corinthians 5:17-19, we’re told that “if anyone is in Christ, he or she is a new creature. The old things have passed away. Behold, new things are coming, and all these things are from God.”
This isn’t just pretty scripture—it’s a profound reality that changes everything. When Christ died, we died with Him. We died to everything that had ever troubled us and everything that comes against us. The old is dead, and we’re only dealing with the new.
Think about that for a moment. Your old way of doing things has died and can be reborn. You can be renewed in every life situation to see it the way He sees it.
Problems Are Just Possibilities in Disguise
One of the most powerful concepts I’ve learned is that every problem can be transformed into a possibility. Jesus said, “In the world, you will have tribulation, but be of good cheer. I’ve overcome the world.”
How did He overcome it? By giving us possibilities from God.
When you face a problem, try putting it to one side and asking, “Lord, what is possible now?” This shift in perspective immediately clears out fear, negativity, worry, and anxiety. Those negative emotions and thoughts take a hike, replaced by joy and peace in believing God.
This explains why James 1:2 tells us to “count it joy when you face trials of different sorts.” When something unexpected or undesired happens, instead of reacting with “Oh no!” we can respond with “Lord, I look forward to seeing what we do here. This’ll be cool!”
Breaking Free from Covenant Confusion
Many believers suffer from what Graham Cooke calls “covenant confusion.” They mix the Old Testament and New Testament without recognizing the fundamental differences between these covenants.
Hebrews 7:22 tells us that “Jesus is the guarantor of a better covenant.” Hebrews 8:6 says Jesus “has obtained a more excellent ministry… the mediator of a better covenant, enacted on better promises.”
When Jesus established a new covenant, He made the first one obsolete (Hebrews 8:13). This doesn’t mean we discard half the Bible, but it does mean we approach our relationship with God differently.
The Old Testament focused on one nation, Israel, while the New Testament encompasses every nation on earth. The new covenant has effectively replaced the old, and that was precisely why Jesus came.
Learning Without Condemnation
One of the most liberating aspects of living in our new nature is understanding that with the Lord, we can’t fail a test—we simply get unlimited attempts to pass it!
In the Old Testament, you were disciplined for doing something wrong. But in the new covenant, sin is defined as failure to do what is right. When you miss an opportunity to do the right thing, God doesn’t fail you; He just lets you take the test again because His patience and kindness are boundless.
When you make a mistake, instead of condemning yourself, try this approach: “Father, I completely blew it. You gave me a possibility, and I didn’t enter into it. Forgive me for not coming into it, and give me another chance because I want to learn it with you.”
Embracing Kingdom Normal
What’s normal in God’s kingdom is radically different from what the world considers normal. In kingdom normal:
- It’s normal to have joy and peace in believing
- It’s normal to be at rest
- It’s normal to never worry
- It’s normal to be hopeful, excited, interested, and engaged
We’re learning to practice the art of being overwhelmed by goodness. We’re discovering who God is and, consequently, who we are in Him.
As you walk in your new nature, remember that goodness and kindness will follow you all the days of your life. Even when you’re “being followed around by the spirit of stupid” (as Graham humorously puts it), you can feel the love and kindness of God rising in your heart.
Living Under His Smile
You have a newness advantage all the time. There’s no pain in anything you’re learning, just gratitude for who God really is. Aim to live every day under His smile—because that honors Jesus the most.
What if more Christians started walking in this new light? What if we stopped condemning ourselves and started drawing closer to God? This world would look very different, and that transformation begins with you and me embracing our new nature in Christ.
