Building Grit Through The Power of Resilience

by | May 14, 2025 | Thoughts & Events

Are you struggling with your business journey? Feeling discouraged because success isn’t happening as quickly as you hoped? I want to share something powerful with you that might just be the most important message for any entrepreneur to hear.

The Valley After the Mountain

When you’re learning and growing in business, it can feel like you’re on a mountaintop – getting fed with knowledge, strategies, and inspiration. But what happens when that experience ends? When you go back into the valley of everyday life and have to implement what you’ve learned?

This is when resilience and grit become your most valuable assets.

My Own Rocky Path to Success

Let me share something personal. Twenty years ago, I left my $80,000 salary job to become a full-time real estate investor. Four years later, I was in foreclosure, divorced, depressed, and a million dollars in debt. I felt like a failure and started drinking heavily.

But four years after hitting that rock bottom? I had my first million-dollar year. The following year, I doubled it. And the year after that, I doubled it again.

The path to success isn’t a straight line upward. It’s messy, full of detours, and sometimes feels impossible. That’s entrepreneurship.

Success Stories That Should Inspire You

Consider these journeys:

John Paul DeJoria was the youngest son of immigrant parents whose mother gave him up to foster care. Later, as a single parent, he lived in his car with his son. Today, he’s worth $3 billion.

Jamie Kern Lima was told by an investor that women wouldn’t buy makeup from someone of her body type and weight. After countless rejections and near bankruptcy, she sold her company to L’Oreal for $1.2 billion – their largest US acquisition ever.

Melissa McCarthy was working at Starbucks and YMCA with just $35 in her bank account. She gave herself a deadline to quit pursuing acting, and two days before that deadline, landed a role in Gilmore Girls. Now she’s one of the highest-paid actresses in the world.

Harrison Ford spent 27 years taking small, often unpaid roles before landing his first lead role. Twenty-seven years!

Your Struggles Are Building Your Story

Here’s the question that changes everything: Why do we get inspired when we hear about these people struggling for years, but when it’s our own journey, we think it’s unfair?

Don’t you realize you’re actually building your inspirational story?

If success came instantly, nobody would be inspired. We make movies about people who struggled, not those who had overnight success. Your challenges are making your future success story more powerful.

God’s Perfect Plan

As a perfect Father, God knows exactly what experiences will drive you into your most purpose-filled life. He allows challenges to help you grow into the person qualified to help those He’s calling you to serve.

Romans 5:3-4 says, “We glory in our sufferings because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope.”

When you’ve overcome obstacles, you develop hope for the future. You start thinking, “What else can I do?” Your struggles aren’t punishments – they’re preparation for inspiring others through what you’ve overcome.

Shortening the Process

While I can’t guarantee how quickly you’ll see results (John 3:27 reminds us that our Heavenly Father is responsible for all results), I can help you get there faster through my experience and with God’s guidance.

I once had a client who was an assistant manager at a hardware store making $38,000 a year in a tiny Montana town. He borrowed money to join our mastermind when he was already behind on bills. That same year, he made $500,000 because he implemented every single thing I suggested without excuses or procrastination.

What’s Your Next Step?

I hope this message resonates with where you are right now in your journey. What I really hope is that you see the value in having someone in your corner who’s been there before. I know I can help you reach your goals faster, whatever they look like for you.
