How to Stop Being Overwhelmed

Being Overwhelmed

Know something any great leader in history never did? They never complained about being overwhelmed. Somehow we have allowed this to be acceptable in society and so this post will help you with being overwhelmed but also with how to stop using language that doesn’t serve you.

Why You Should Never Complain About Being Overwhelmed

Telling people you are overwhelmed does not serve you, so why say it? Here is the reality and you can see a video around the idea on my blog post about making money. Most people just sit and stare at their results in life and complain and say they need more money, etc when it is really your habits that have caused the results in your life. However, do you know what caused your habits? Your mindset. And do you know what caused your mindset? Your VOCABULARY.

So you see, complaining about being overwhelmed will set your mindset in a certain way that will dictate your habits and then your results to justify the fact that indeed you ARE overwhelmed and overwhelmed people are unable to get good results. How many just thought of other areas in life where you might use non-serving language? Watch that language and what comes out of your mouth, it literally is forming your experience and your results!

Changing ALL of your results….by using your tongue

Being Overwhelmed

I believe that it is NOT the actual being overwhelmed that is the worst, it’s the constant SAYING that you are that is. STOP SAYING NON-SERVING STATEMENTS and declarations!

Understand that you never hear a great leader moan and whine about being overwhelmed so WHY SHOULD YOU? This may sound a little harsh but jeez louise, someone has to say it.

So the very, very first step in no longer being overwhelmed is to STOP saying it. Do you know what overwhelmed really comes from? It comes from the competitive mindset. When you are on the creative plane you don’t need to think this way. Let me pull some of my content from my “Get Rich Blueprint” mp3 series, check it out:

Week 13: Picking the Right Business: “When you get out of the competitive mind you will understand that you never need to act hastily. No one else is going to beat you to the thing you want to do; there is enough for all. If one space is taken, another and a better one will be opened for you a little farther on; there is plenty of time.”

So, the fact that you missed one email or webinar is NOT A BIG DEAL.

OK, so you stopped saying it, How to be more productive

I am going to take your word that you are vowing never to use such weak, non-serving words and discuss you being overwhelmed so now I can offer you the ultimate solution to stop the overwhelm and start moving into super production. The key is one word, ROUTINE. Your daily routine will crush any overwhelm and can make or break all of your results. I have a few blog posts on daily routine but the easiest way to download the latest is to enter your name and email at the upper right hand corner of this post and just read my routine and start implementing it in your life and smack overwhelm in the face once and for all!

Here’s to YOU using only POWERFUL, SERVING vocabulary from here on out!

  5. Hi Ray,

Overwhelm is simply surrendering your power to something outside of yourself. Really a confining state of mind, but as you note, change your wording, and the overwhelm disappears. Power tips Ray.

Mental hurry is at the root of overwhelm. Thinking you need to rush, devouring all sorts of information, to become successful, is a mistake. This happens when you operate on a competitive plane. When you work on a creative plane the idea of mental hurry, or others beating you to wealth, or prospects, vanishes. You simply act from a calm, confident place, attracting whatever you need to become successful.

    Thanks Ray!

  8. I was just guilty of using that very same word this weekend when my MLSP sponsor asked how I was doing. There is so much information to cover and it was starting to *gasp* “overwhelm” me.

Great reminder. Thanks Ray. It’s almost as if you read my mind on this one.

  9. Great point (week 13) Ray,

In this industry there is often a tendency to create a sense of ‘urgency’ to motivate people. I feel that this is tapping into peoples fear. I try to motivate people by creating a sense of hope (the opposite of fear). The language of optimism is very powerful.

  13. I had to laugh because I remember saying that a lot in the beginning. On the other hand I don’t remember the last time I said it. All about growth. I never thought about it being a competitive thing that causes it. I do know that when we are totally about service to others then we forget about ourselves and overwhelm completely goes away. Thanks as always bring such value to all of us in the market place!!

  15. So yes, in multiple ways. The creative aspect-I am an artist and when I am painting time and "the goal" disappear. Sometimes when I am stuck in a painting for a while, I will leave it and paint others.I learned to not let it frustrate me because I trust something will surface eventually. Maybe 6 months down the line, something comes to me from the other paintings, and hours later the unfinished painting is resolved. I think that is similar to how Holosync works, the right and left brain have suddenly communicated. The brain waves are in a similar state in hypnosis, meditating, and painting/creating.

There is a book called "The Tongue, A Creative Force" and "Hung By the Tongue" which talk a lot about how what we say can create our reality. NLP and the Bible both see the tongue as a rudder that steers huge forces, including our thoughts, which lead to our actions, which lead to our habits, which determine our character. And I also read an ancient wise man said "I tell them they can have what they say, but they will only say what they have".

    [Reply]

    Ray Higdon Reply:

I like that rudder analogy, cool

What an inspiring and challenging post! Thanks

I am always complaining about being overwhelmed and am changing that.

Also, I have being recently looking at how to portray myself as a ‘leader’ in this business who is providing value to others. I have been looking very much at the messages I portray, my language and posture.

    Thanks for the challenge!

  18. Many people believe it’s just what they think that makes a difference, but they don’t watch what they say. I once read a great quote in spanish that would translate in english in something like this: “You’re what you speak”.

    Thanks for the post.

  19. Awesome post, Ray. You’re absolutely, the key to not being overwhelmed is to stop proclaiming that you’re overwhelmed. I like what you said about our habits because it’s our habits that create our life. If we don’t like the way our lives have turned out, we need to check our habits and make adjustments.

    Thanks for sharing big guy.

  23. Great post today Ray,

Overwhelm and information overload is definitely one of the biggest killers I see in this industry but you’re post spoke perfectly to that problem.
Don’t even allow overwhelm into your life.
Create a daily routine and STICK to it.
BOOM there is the cure to information overload and overwhelm because
by creating a daily routine you only have the routine to focus on.

    Love it ray! You’re a weapon! haha…

  25. The key I think is deciding what you want to focus on. If you decide you are going to be doing particular marketing strategies, put blinders on and don't pay attention to anything that doesn't have to do with those strategies. I have to admit I've been guilty of this, too. I have a hard time resisting a good bargain. :-)

    [Reply]

    Ray Higdon Reply:

Good bargains are great but gotta define the purpose

  28. Ray, love the picture of the tongue! I have been working on myself for a while, stopping my non-serving vocabulary and it really does make a difference. Thanks for the reminder that it is not the end of the world if I have missed an email or a webinar, and to get out of the competative mind.

  29. The tongue can be compared to a ship’s rudder. The ship is very large, driven by strong winds; but steered by a very small rudder where the pilot wants to go. The tongue is a small part of the body; yet, it can unleash or release depending upon what is going on inside. Excellent article, Ray, and Biblical based teaching found in James. Thank you for the reminder.

  34. Being overwhelmed might mean that you have lots of things to do, lots of choice.

There are people in parts of the world that have no choice, No complaining.
There are people in the world that have no opportunities, Still no complaining.

So why are YOU complaining? Think about it.

Just what my mind thought when I read this post. How does this relate? well, we still accomplish what we went to do in the first place, but when we get frustrated it just slows things down. Does this make sense?

  36. Awesome Awesome Post Ray…Thanks for helping me change my mindset. You truly are a great leader. All great leaders lead by example and you ought to be proud of your accomplishments.
