Upcoming Events and Do NOT think About the Statue of Liberty!

When you subject or title of this writing, what did you think about immediately? Despite my instructions you immediately thought about the Statue of Liberty Right? This story is about how sometimes we miss the opportunity to be purposeful and impacting and instead choose to go with the flow.

I just came back from the hair salon around the corner from my house by Publix. Lately the shop talk in this hair salon has all been negative, how everything is down and how slow the day is going to be for them. Today was especially interesting. My stylist was talking about her husbands Christmas Party. Her husband works at the Hyatt on Coconut Point. She vividly recalled to me that for the Christmas Party the big wigs of the company flew in and addressed the workers, who, despite cutting their thanksgiving dinner prices by half, sold less than 1/3 of what they did last year. What happened next is as absurd as me thinking I could tell you not to think of the statue of liberty and believe in your compliance. He addressed the entire staff as admitting to how bad the economy was, how down they were down from last year and also stating that 2009 was looking pretty grim. He then went on to say that he didn’t want them to think about it and this is why he was opening the bar! He then proceeded to head straight to the private party, away from the staff members, never to return.

Perhaps the reason why he stated that 2009 was looking grim was to try to connect with the majority of the staff that believed that already. Maybe he made that statement because he didn’t want to create any false expectations. Or maybe he was just drunk. Either way, for whatever reason, he was successful in completing eliminating any hope of morale with the staff. Just as or even more impacting was by making his statements the way he did, he successfully alienated the small percentage of managers, division heads and supervisors that had been fighting in the trenches for his company to keep the morale up. More than likely those successful thinking employees will now move on to a company with a better culture.

Why do we miss opportunities to be great? Why do we sometimes choose the easy route such as the Hyatt big wig? Because some people have become afraid to truly taste what it is like to be alive.

If you are about to do something and you feel anxious over it (and it is legal and ethical), you are more than likely headed in the right direction. When you speak to a friend that is down on their luck and speak in an optimistic way that may not echo their own feelings, you may feel a little anxiety where the easier route would be to consul them and agree with everything they are saying. In these times we are given the opportunity to impact people wherever we go. Think about your impact and the language you are using and what language would serve them and you better.

January is almost here and we have some kick-butt events coming up! I was reading a Fortune magazine and found this awesome interview with Malcolm Gladwell; the genius behind the books, Blink, The Tipping Point and Outliers. In this article Gladwell is quoted as saying:

“Instead of thinking about talent as something that you acquire, talent should be thought of as something that you develop. Proctor and Gamble is a great example of a company that does that and has prospered as a result. Look around Wall Street, or what’s left of it today, and you’ll see lots and lots and lots of people from Goldman Sachs. That’s not a coincidence. It’s because they took their mission to invest in people seriously.”

The interviewer then went on to ask:

Should people be expected to take the issue of developing talent seriously right now, in the middle of a crisis? Of which Gladwell answered:

“Paradoxically, this might be the perfect time. When it’s easy to make money, you have no incentive to think about development of talent. Now you’re forced to. At least that’s my optimistic hope.”

I hope this email finds you spending time with family and loved ones or at least smiling (perhaps for some of you this occurs when you are NOT spending time with family!). I felt the urge to write again and in this writing I hope to accomplish 3 simple things:
1. I want to give credit to the year 2008 where all others are just badmouthing it!
2. I want to have you walk away from this writing with the knowledge that you can accomplish anything you want to accomplish
3. I want you to share with you what I think will make the biggest impact in your business right now and for free!

First a riddle: What is almost Dead but will probably continue to take a beating for 20 years? Answer: The year 2008 of course! Almost every blog I read, every year-end update I see is a verbal beat-down on the year 2008! Why has 2008 become the red-headed ugly stepchild of the 21st century? Well, instead of answer that pretty easy to answer question, why not think and discuss the good things we got out of this year?

Those of us who were playing in the real estate amusement park in 2004-2005 probably didn’t learn nearly as much as we did in 2008. As in investor in those years you could close your eyes, point out the window, paint it and carpet it and make $30,000.00…well, that isn’t really a learning environment is it? Yes, fast cash was the norm and we all got used to that lifestyle very quickly but anytime something is that easy, anytime someone can make big money while barely having any knowledge of the business category, it just cannot last can it?

Let us rise up and be thankful, for if we didn’t learn a lot today, at least we learned a little, and if we didn’t learn a little, at least we didn’t get sick, and if we got sick, at least we didn’t die; so, let us all be thankful.

It really doesn’t matter how bad the year 2008 was for you, it also doesn’t matter how much your childhood stunk either! Those things are in the past. Don’t waste time lamenting over yesterday’s losses or failures; spend time rejoicing over what you learned and what you have to be thankful for. No matter where you are at in your life, it could be worse. Be thankful that you have eyes to read this message. Be thankful that you have a voice to talk to others around you. Be thankful that there is air to breathe. Be thankful in the knowledge that you CAN get to where you want to go in life, regardless of where you are. The best way to know this is to se proof. Now, as promised, here is the thing that I truly believe will make the biggest impact in your business life; Understanding and embracing the online social networking phenomenon. The world is getting faster and faster and if you are trying to grow a business, you need to keep up! Now is NOT the time to strip away the things you seem frivolous like blogging and spending time on social networking sites, these are things you really need to do and luckily we now have tools to make it easier!

Here are the three most powerful free resources I have found in regards to social networking. They are http://www.FaceBoook.com, http://www.Twitter.com and http://www.ping.fm. Most of you have probably heard of the first two but the last one is pretty darn sweet. http://www.ping.fm gives you the ability to update all of your social networking sites at the same time from your phone! Pretty darn cool. Now, perhaps you wonder why that makes a difference? Well, when you update your different pages it floats your update around that social network and especially something like http://www.Twitter.com, it puts you at the top of all your followers and friends websites. Two bits of advice when it comes to social networking: Don’t always be selling or simply talking about a website that you hope someone buys something from and also, NEVER BE BORING! If you are doing something interesting, tell people about it! Remember that these days people want to know people that have a personality, not some corporate stiff. So how the heck do you stay motivated in this market?
Yesterday I was in the Beacon Executive Suites Dropping off a
check to the Boys and Girls Club of the Money we raised from
the holiday party (thank you everyone) and I ran into some
folks that were working on building a multi level marketing
company. As most of you know, I fully believe in these
companies being an engine for passive income if the product is
good. They were asking me how I always stayed motivated. They
seemed to really like and appreciate what I told them so I
thought it would be worthwhile to share with you all.

Isn’t that a wonderful quote? All throughout my life people have been
telling me I could not do something or wanting me to come down from
my beliefs and agree with them how hard it is to do something or bad
things are and I have just refused. In real estate, if someone told me
no way to my offer, I would say no problem and move on, knowing that I
didn’t need that deal. Know that in business whatever project or client you are working on is not something you NEED. For example my friends in Network Marketing hear about a 7 to 1 no to yes ratio if they are decent. The good ones know it is just a numbers game and continue to stay motivated and plug away at getting the RIGHT people. The ones that will never ever make it in that type of business go home and cry to Mama after the 4th or 5th no.

Whatever you lack in skill, make up for in numbers
Staying motivated has nothing to do with anything on the outside of your mind and everything to do with the real estate between your ears. If you believe in your product, which is YOURSELF, then you know that if you stay upbeat, positive and moving toward (versus away) from your goals then you will succeed, period.

That quote is so true and tells us that if we can envision a goal or dream, just by the ability to envision it means we can accomplish it! I find it much easier to stay motivated when I know I am working toward something I want to accomplish. When you take the time to write down your goals and write them down everyday, throughout your day just think to yourself if what you are doing, thinking, or listening to is moving you toward your goals or not. If it is not then either accept it and recognize it or stop doing it and do something that will move you forward! This does not mean eliminate time with family or time doing the things you love to do because when you do the things you love to do, you are in harmony and good things will be attracted to you.

A couple years ago I bought plane tickets, hotel accommodations and spent $750 to attend a course in San Francisco called photo reading. I figured that I had become too busy to read as much as I used to, so, learning how to read faster made sense to me! This really helped me a lot and I can whip through books a lot faster now than I used to but this is the type of thinking you may consider to stay motivated and get ahead in this market. Let me ask you a question. Have they convinced you that you cannot succeed? Have they convinced you that this market is impossible? Have they convinced you that the market turning around is the only thing that can help you?
Well, I got good news and bad news. The bad news is shame on you for letting an outside force or entity to control your outcomes but the good news is…

IT IS VERY EASY TO STOP LISTENING TO THEM!

First of all, who are THEY? They can be the media, your friends, your family members, your parents…it may even be those from your childhood. Perhaps you saw your parents go through tough times and recall how tough that was and you are simply reliving those memories in your current life.

There are two quick things you can do RIGHT NOW to change, it will take some time and dedication but, they are FREE and what the heck is your alternative?

First things first, if the person giving you advice is struggling, not a millionaire, or does not live the type of life you wished that you lived, STOP LISTENING TO THEM. Take this one step further and learn how to only accept that advice that HELPS you toward your goals. Want some examples?
The statement that I hear over and over is “It is tough to make money in this market”. Well, if you read my past blog at http://theforeverwealthclub.com/blog/date/2008/11 you know that 2008 marked the year that more billionaires were created than ever before, so, just take that statement and throw it out the window or continue believing it and like James Ray says: Your wish is my command! You see, if you simply make statements like that or believe them, you force them to become true. And yes, I am talking about the law of attraction but it really goes deeper than that. In the bible when Moses and his people were in the desert, the people came to Moses and told them they didn’t have water. So what did he tell them to do? He told them to pray for rain. When he visited them and they cried about praying and praying but no rain showing up, he asked them where the ditches were. They looked puzzled and asked what he meant. He said, and this is so important to understand, where did you expect the rain to go if you didn’t dig ditches?

ARE YOU DIGGING THE DITCHES TO ACCEPT YOUR RAIN?

You need to have an invisible force field around you that protects you from all malignant statements. Negative statements about your future are cancerous and need to be quickly thrown away. Negative events also need to be used for what they are meant to be used for. Let me give you an example.

I got a massage the other day and I came out to my car and the car would not start. The battery was so dead that my door locks would not even work and I had an important meeting to get to. Did I sit there and moan and groan? Did I say how much it sucked and say woe is me? No, my very first thought, the one that came to me instantly was, I wonder who I am supposed to meet for this to happen. You see, everything happens for a reason. Every bad event in your life happens for a reason. They may happen because you do not currently hold the mental state to accomplish a goal you are focusing on. They may happen because had your life gone on as planned, you would have missed out on something wonderful. Heck, they may happen to save you from something even worse! So, back to my car not working…
After I called AAA, I grabbed some food and sat on a bench outside of an animal hospital. A lady came out about 2 minutes later, obviously distraught, and asked if she could sit down beside me. I said sure (and kind of laughed inside on how fast this one happened). She got on the phone and called someone, I assume her husband, and expressed her dismay at the health conditions of her dog. When she got off the phone I told her that I hoped her dog would get better soon. She spent the next 40 minutes telling me all about her dogs, how she rescues animals and how much she loves her pets. I sat there quietly and listened, contributing where I could but let her go on and on about her pets. After all this time, she got up, looked at me, told me I was a great guy, thanked me for listening and went about her day. She looked infinitely better than she did when she came out of that hospital. I don’t say this to impress you but to impress upon you that you can make a huge difference in someone’s life by just listening to them. Now, another interesting thing that happened is when the AAA driver arrived, I didn’t have cash to tip him so I looked in my trunk, found an unopened set of Audio CD’s for the secret, which, he had never heard of, and gave them to him. Hopefully he will get something out of them and change his life as I did when I first listened to them.

Now, ready to change your life? Ready to wipe those excuses out of existence? Then let’s do it RIGHT NOW! I told my good friend Tim Hart this step and he calls me every couple days to tell me that something else just happened from doing it.

Every single day, write down what you want to accomplish in the present tense.
If your immediate response is that you don’t have time, then I am here to tell you that you are full of crap and get over it. I write a page and a half every single day no matter what and it takes about 15 minutes to do. Here are some of my more generic ones that you can instantly use as examples:

I feel wonderful now that I only have fantastic things happen to me.
I am so happy that I have such wonderful personal and business relationships.
I feel so happy that I have so much money coming in from all kinds of avenues.

If you notice the pattern, I am stating them in the present tense, only using positive terms and saying them with emotion. Do not worry if you have a hard time believing your statements at first, with repetition and not listening to negative forces around you, they will start to stick. To start this process, pick one statement and focus on something you can measure shortly. The more you see results, the more you believe, the more they will start to work. If someone owes you money, then write a statement saying how grateful you are that you were paid from that person.

STILL CONVINCED YOU CANNOT SUCCEED?

The great Tony Robbins was in New York City and told his team that he wanted to go around and give bags of food to the homeless. He told them to rent a van so they could transport the food. Hours later he asked where the van was and they said there were no vans available as they had called all the rental places. Determined to get his way he went into traffic and started knocking on the windows of vans, stating what he wanted to accomplish and if they would let him use their van. After 30 minutes he knocked on the window of the head of the salvation army and accomplished his goal.

Make it an Awesome Day!

Tonight is the Holiday Charity Party in Cape Coral. I am
always excited to party but more than that I am excited to
help
as many local boys and girls this holiday season.

There has never been a better time to give.

As we all know, the market has affected a lot of people.
Restaurants, title companies, real estate offices, almost
every type of industry in Lee County has been affected by
this
market. One unfortunate category of people that are
affected
by this market, are the kids. When the parents are making
less
and less money, there may be no money left for presents for
the
kids. Each year the Boys & Girls Clubs of Lee County
provide over 1,700 children within our community a positive
place to go and learn essential life skills after school.
87% of the children from these clubs have single parents
working everyday to provide for their family, thus the
children would be out on the streets without parental
guidance if not for the Boys & Girls Clubs.

You Find Out What People Are Made of During Tough Times.

Here’s the history of this holiday party. I was asked to MC
a charity event a few months back to help raise money for
a child that had been in a terrible 4 wheeler accident and was
on life support. The parents of that child were surprised to
find out that their little girl was not going to be covered by
their insurance, so you can imagine what that could do to a
family financially. We had a charity auction there where I bid
on and won a certificate to some restaurant I had never heard
of for 100 people to enjoy unlimited drinks and food for 90
minutes. As of about a month ago, I had pretty much forgotten
about that certificate.

Fast forward a couple months…Here it was coming around to the
holiday season and I had not had time to plan a holiday event.
If you recall, last year we had a huge turnout at the Cape Coral
Yacht Club for our Vegas themed Holiday Party, had over 250
people there to benefit Guardian Ad Litem, Kiwanis Kids and
Voices for Kids, We Had a BLAST! But, last year I had a lot
of help from my now former fiancee as she was really good at
that sort of thing, of which was missed this year.

But then I remembered! What about that certificate? So,
Tonight, we are heading to the restaurant that in such a
trying time in our economy (especially for a restaurant in
Cape Coral) decided to donate such an incredible gift to such
an incredible cause. I am using a certificate I purchased at
a charity event, to hold a charity event, because that is the
way it was intended to be used.

Here is what I know. IF YOU ARE A GIVER YOU WILL BE REWARDED.
Some say that if you can picture your finances as a bucket, some
people will look to hold onto that bucket of money as tightly as
possible. I believe God looks at those people and thinks, OK,
this person has plenty of money, they do not need any more.
Other people choose to donate their time and money and give as
much money away as possible. I believe these people’s buckets
are looked at as in need of more money and God works quickly
to ensure those people have more money.

Success Without Giving Is Not Success.

Let me ask you this. For those of us with kids…do you feel
and think better when your kids are happy? I know I sure do.
What do you think will happen to the parents of the kids we
help tonight? They will see their kids Happier and will feel
better. This is not JUST about needy kids, but also about needy
parents. This market is the opportunity to see what you are
really made of.

If you can make it tonight, that is wonderful. We are only asking

are experiencing difficulty. This is another reason why it is
so darn cool that Mr Whalen of the Moorings chose to give that
certificate to the charity those months back. Every single penny
that comes in (not just profits) is going straight to the
Boys and Girls Club.

Now, are you blessed? Do you still have a roof over your head?
And while some of you may not eat as fancy as you used to, you
do get to eat right? Are you drinking clean water everyday?
Then You Are Blessed! Did you know across the world that
27,000 people per day die of dysentery due to not having clean
water? Trust me, whatever place you are in, whatever degree of
blessed you are, Know that it could be worse. Show your

This tip is so simple but so rarely done. This tip is for
the most
part free and easy to implement, but few do it…but the
few that do
get massive results! What is this 1 marketing tip?
DO NOT BE BORING!
It’s that simple! Do not be boring! Be controversial, Be
Personal,
Be Crazy but DO NOT BE BORING!
I have the privilege to be working with Dr. Rob Watkins as
a client
to do his Internet Marketing and we were talking today
about making
sure your website had a personality. People want to do
business
with REAL people, not corporations or cookie cutter
business in a box
kind of people. If by nothing else, your personality should
set
you apart from your competition! Yes, you should always,
always,
always create massive value for your clients but you should
also
make yourself something different than just someone that
does whatever
it is that you do.
Don’t be afraid to be personal. Don’t be afraid to let
people know
you made a mistake, show people that you are human! Take a
look
at all of your marketing and ask yourself: Is this the same
trite
marketing drivel that my competition does or does this really say
who I
am and what I am all about. If you open up the yellow pages

(does anyone still do that?) and you see that your ad says
pretty much
the same thing that all of your competitors say, well…
HOW THE HECK ARE PEOPLE SUPPOSED TO KNOW TO PICK YOU?
This is not just as simple as the overused phrase of having
a
USP (Unique Selling Proposition), of course you should have
one
but if you combine that with having a real personality
online,
you can do some serious business with the same people that
skipped
right past you before you did. Make Funny, Crazy videos. Dress
up crazy for Halloween, (This was my costume this year, I actually
used gorilla glue to keep that mustache on, LOL -

what you are doing with your kids, pets, etc. But, Do Not Think
that people evaluate you by how corporate like your website looks
like in a positive manner, it almost works with the exact opposite
effect.
